The website's theme was broken in such a manner that there was no way to gain access to the backend of the site as long as the theme was activated. Therefore, the client, a real estate agent, was unable to post blogs or make any other changes to the site until this problem was resolved. To compound matters, the website is a subsite of a WordPress multisite network, so creating a staging area where we could make changes and then migrate the changes to the live site would be more challenging than working with a single site install.
We decided to replace the broken theme with a Genesis framework child theme, AgentPress Pro, so the client has a rock solid theme moving forward that is geared towards realtors. We then incorporated the look and layouts of the current site into the new theme to avoid a lengthy redesign phase. Finally, we used the Migrate DB Pro plugin to push the subsite to a single site install that we used as a staging area. Once we completed our updates to the staging area, we used Migrate DB Pro again to pull those changes back into the live subsite.
